Barrow Island Rugby League Football Club were founded in 1935.
They had little success until early 1980s when they became the first club from the south of the county to win the Cumbria County Cup in 1988/89 then had to wait until season 2005/06 to gain a second success.
Barrow Island joined the North West Counties league in season 200/2001 after competing in the National Conference league for 11 seasons, travelling to places like Hull and Castleford getting ever more tedious and expensive.
The club have had mixed fortunes since joining the North West Counties having twice been in Division 1 and gaining promotion to the Premier league.
